More Than an Assembly: Finding Purpose in Shared Journeys

Editor’s Note: Our Camalig Bank Foundation scholars joined us for two days in Camalig Bank’s Corporate Office, where we shared experiences and career plans. Part of the assembly also included a tour around Albay. In this piece, Amiel, one of our scholars shares his reflections on those two days.

Looking back at the General Assembly last July 11–12, it honestly felt like more than just an event. For two days, I got to be with fellow scholars who understand the same kind of pressure, ambition, and even doubt that comes with what we’re all trying to do, not just succeed for ourselves, but for the people who believe in us.

At first, I was a bit nervous. I wasn’t sure how the activities would go or if I’d even connect with anyone. But slowly, through the icebreakers, group tasks, and even the random conversations during breaks, something clicked. We started opening up, sharing laughs, stories, and for some of us, even struggles.

We also got to hear from speakers who shared insights about transitioning into the professional world, especially the realities of work onboarding. Their experiences and advice were eye-opening and made me feel more prepared for what’s ahead. One of the most inspiring moments was hearing from a former scholar who came back to share her journey. Her story reminded me that where we are now is just the beginning, and that with persistence, we’ll get there too.

On top of everything, we were also able to tour around Albay. That part made the whole experience even more memorable. Seeing the sights and exploring together gave us a chance to bond outside the sessions, and honestly, it was just really fun.

More than the programs and talks, what I’ll carry with me is the warmth of new friendships, the spark of motivation reignited, and the realization that this community is something truly special. We don’t just share a scholarship, we share a purpose.
